Description
These quick, crispy garlic toasted breadcrumbs are perfect for meal prep! Keep a batch on the counter and use them as a topping for pastas, salads, grain bowls, and more.
Ingredients
- 1 Tablespoon unsalted butter
- 1 cup plain panko breadcrumbs
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- kosher salt and fresh cracked black pepper, to taste
Instructions
- Melt butter in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Add breadcrumbs, garlic powder, kosher salt, and pepper; stir to combine.
- Toast, stirring frequently, for 2-4 minutes until golden brown. Note: This process will move quickly. Keep an eye on the breadcrumbs, stir them frequently for even browning, and remember that they will continue to darken in the hot pan even once the heat is off.
Notes
Additions and Substitutions. Add additional dried herbs (parsley, rosemary, thyme, Italian seasoning) or spices (cayenne, cumin, onion powder, red pepper flakes) to these bread crumbs for additional flavor. Use olive oil instead of butter. Omit the black pepper if you prefer.
Storage. Let breadcrumbs cool completely, then store in an airtight container on the counter for up to 5 days (if you use olive oil instead of butter, toasted breadcrumbs will keep on the counter for a week or more). You can store breadcrumbs in the fridge or freezer for several weeks, but they won't stay as crispy: Toast refrigerated or frozen breadcrumbs in a hot skillet for a minute or two to crisp them back up when you're ready to use them.
