This page is a work in progress!
Life As A Strawberry uses a portion of its monthly revenue to support nonprofits working to build a more sustainable, accessible, equitable food system.
In our ten-year history, we've been honored to support the work of the following organizations:
- COMMUNITY SERVINGS - Community Servings provides more than 650,000 medically-tailored meals a year to Boston-area individuals and families who are unable to shop or cook due to a critical or chronic illness. They believe in the healing power of food (and their CEO wasย a guest on At The Table Podcast Episode 8!)
- FOOD LITERACY CENTER - Food Literacy Center teaches low-income elementary children in and around Sacramento to cook through after-school programs that focus on culinary skills, nutrition, and food's impact on the environment and economy. Currently, they serve 1,200 students a week. You might recognize their Founder and Chief Food Genius, Amber Stott, as a formerย At The Table Podcastย guest!
- NO KID HUNGRY - Summer is an especially hungry time of year for children who rely on subsidized school meals during the academic year. No Kid Hungry helps connect hungry kids with summer meals in addition to their year-round work to provide school breakfasts, advocate for healthy, accessible foods, and teach families to shop for and cook healthy meals through their Cooking Matters program.
- FEEDING AMERICA - Feeding Americaย is the largest domestic hunger-relief organization in the United States. Theirย programs include a food rescue initiative - saving perfectly good food from ending up in a landfill and directing it instead to families in need - and support for a national food bank network.
Other organizations we love:
- F.A.R.M.S.
- NATIFS
- World Central Kitchen
- Food Recovery Network
- The Trevor Project
- Rock Steady Farm
- Right to Be (formerly iHollaback)
We're a remote team
That means no long commutes (and no morning traffic jams!) We have been a fully remote team since 2017.
In 2019, working from home saved our employees and contractors more than 530 collective commute hours, which helped us eliminate 18,000 miles of driving and more than 7.27 metric tons of CO2 emissions*.
Remote work also frees up extra cash so we can spend it on spend it on charitable giving, perks, and salaries instead of office space.
* Based on an average one-way commute of 15 miles (DOT, 2003) and 27.1 minutes (US Census Bureau, 2018), and average passenger vehicle emissions of 404 grams of CO2 per mile (EPA, 2018). In 2017, Transportation - including cars, trucks, ships, trains, and planes - accounted for the largest share (28.9%) of U.S. greenhouse gas emissions (EPA, 2018).
